SCB Steelers’ Quick Hitters: The “Inaction Reaction” Edition

Good Wednesday to you Steelers’ Fans!

The National Football League trade deadline is now less than a week away and if you’re on social media at all then you’ll know there is a great disturbance in the Steelers’ Force. Perhaps more than any other time I can recall, fans want to see the Steelers make a move to improve the team. With names like Patrick Peterson and Gareon Conley being floated, Steeler Nation is abuzz thinking that adding a player is necessary. This issue uncovers something much deeper though. Are fans starting to think that the Steelers’ way of doing things is antiquated? Should they be more open to trades and should they be larger players in free agency? It’s a difficult discussion to have because all of us have our own definition of what success looks like. Furthermore, is adding an upgrade at cornerback all this team needs to make it to the Super Bowl? Some would argue a linebacker is just as important. I do not think the Steelers pull any kind of trigger on Peterson. This organization just doesn’t part with first round draft picks. If Conley could be had for fourth though? That seems more doable. Either way, there will be a large segment of fans that won’t be happy regardless of what does or doesn’t happen.

I don’t believe any of us were under any kind of belief that Morgan Burnett would be some type of defensive savior when he was signed in the offseason. What was more likely was that he’d provide a very nice veteran presence in the secondary. SO far, Burnett hasn’t done enough to even have a judgment cast upon him. He’s missed several games in a row and is on track to miss the Browns’ game this week as well. At this point, I’ll be very surprised if he’s back in 2019.

Tweet of the Day… Exactly what the NFL envisioned when they moved the deadline back.

I would just like to add how much I love it when Ben Roethlisberger refers to Todd Haley as “Coach Todd.” He said this yesterday on his daily show on 93.7 The Fan when asked about Hue Jackson’s comments about being more involved in the Browns’ offense.

I’ve already started working on our game preview, the ‘Three-Point Stance’ for this week and what jumps off the page are the defensive numbers for Cleveland. They rank in the bottom third in Total Defense, Pass Defense and Rush Defense but lead the NFL in takeaways with 20 and in plus/minus with +10. Bottom line for the Steelers? Win the turnover battle.
