SCB Steelers Quick Hitters: The “Game of Chicken” Edition

Good day to you Steelers’ Fans.

I honestly am struggling to put this mess into perspective. At a time when thousands of American workers are not getting paid this ‘Antonio Brown’ thing really shouldn’t be getting the attention it is but that’s why we are here. What is developing is a potential game of chicken between AB and the Steelers and who blinks first may seem unclear. Once the new league year begins however I would expect things to get even more interesting.

I feel confident when I tell you the Steelers aren’t going to be bullied into anything. They’ve been down similar roads before but in the social media age, this is admittedly different. Brown’s behavior has been childish. He’s acting like a kid who isn’t getting the keys to the family car for the night despite believing he deserves it. James Harrison’s behavior isn’t any better. Harrison is still bitter over his release last season and has several axes to grind with Mike Tomlin and the organization.

Tweet of the Day… I figure everyone else is using this meme…

I thought Mike Tomlin handled the press conference well yesterday. I came away with three things. First, he has already been read a riot act of sorts by ownership. His demeanor made that obvious. Second, the Steelers are going to make changes to their staff. He never gives specifics in his year-end conference but I felt his comments had substance. Lastly, don’t be surprised if the Steelers seek some sort of insubordination claim against Brown. He was told to get an MRI on his knee and failed to do so. Toss in the fact he would not respond to text messages or calls from his boss and you have a case for insubordination. And oh by the way, Art Rooney II has called him and gotten zero response. Not wise AB.

One thing to keep in mind as this thing unfolds is that there are journalists, both local and national, who have agendas and who have established relationships with the Steelers and AB. Those relationships could be good or could be bad depending. I say this because their narratives will be driven in one direction or another by those previous relationships.

I’m hearing the Steelers will likely slap the Transition tag on Le’Veon Bell for 2019. I cannot believe that they will continue this saga. Let. Him. Go.

Have a great day Steeler Nation!
