SCB Steelers’ Quick Hitters: The “Franco is Frank” Edition

Good day to you Steelers’ Fans and Happy Friday!

Pittsburgh Steelers’ Legend Franco Harris said this week that he believes it is in the best interest of both the team and Le’Veon Bell to get a long-term deal done. I don’t deny that a long-term deal would in fact be great but there are several factors here that make this very unlikely. First is the fact the Steelers aren’t moving off of their offer and Bell likely isn’t going to budge off of his demand for $17 million per season. Second is just simply the wear and tear that’s already accumulated on Bell. Third, is it possible to do a deal that would pay Bell what he could earn this year and next (if he’s transition tagged)? That’s unlikely but it doesn’t mean that some other team won’t pay him the money he’s asking for. The two sides have until July 15th to get something done but it looks very much like he will remain tagged for a second straight year. I appreciate Franco’s frankness but the odds are against this happening.

MMQB’s Albert Breer brought up something this week that I believe is going to happen. He suggested the NFL Player’s Union is getting geared up for a major contractual fight in 2021. What I actually believe will happen is worse. I think a strike is coming. There are way too many issues dividing players and owners right now for it not to happen. The only way players can get the owners’ attention is for them to miss games. I hate to think about it, but it’s coming.

Tweet of the Day… An interesting take by Cam in light of sports gambling coming to America!

Ben Roethlisberger is reportedly on a family vacation right now and did not attend the most recent session of OTAs. Antonio Brown was not present either. My concern level on a range of 1-10 (10 being super concerned) is ZERO. This is professional football, not high school where everyone is expected to participate.

I mentioned yesterday that the Terrible Towel may be making an appearance at my daughter’s graduation ceremony and here it is. I’m the guy coming in from the right.

Keep an eye out for Ian’s World Cup Preview!!! And you thought he just did Steelers, WPIAL, Bracketology, Bottlebots and American Ninja Warrior!

Have a great weekend Steeler Nation!
