SCB Steelers’ Quick Hitters: The “Four Wide?” Edition

Good Thursday to you Steelers’ Fans! Let’s go!!

With the release of Ladarius Green and addition of the solid-blocking JuJu Smith-Schuster, there has been a lot speculation that Steelers’ Offensive Coordinator Todd Haley will use more four wide receiver sets in 2017. Typically, the game dictates when Haley goes to that because by and large he sticks with his base ’11’ package of three wides and a tight end. Even with Jesse James, who may not be a true number one TE, I don’t see Haley wavering from that too often. Remember, Le’Veon Bell being able to run the ball is still the straw that stirs the offensive drink and using James on the move is an important part of the running game’s success. I guess as long as Haley isn’t flexing his offensive tackle wide we should be OK.

I think we need to be careful with our expectations of JuJu as well. Eli Rogers, Demarcus Ayers, Justin Hunter, Sammie Coates and Darrius Heyward-Bey aren’t going to just hand him playing time. If he can handle the playbook and be a special teamer then yeah, sky is the limit for JJSS but let’s get into camp first.

Did you catch James Harrison playing catch with a medicine ball while he lay at a 45 degree angle? Check his Instagram page. It’s just awesome to watch this guy.

Tweet of the Day… VWill talks Madden with someone from around here.

Very little to update regarding contract issues…

Intriguing camp battles I’m looking forward to? I already mentioned the logjam in the receiving corps. Landry Jones vs Josh Dobbs will be more hype than anything. I still expect Jones to be the backup at season’s’ start. Depth on the offensive line will be a good battle as will the secondary where slot corner could be interesting. We’ll have plenty of these articles as Camp gets underway.
