SCB Steelers’ Quick Hitters: The “Forgotten Age” Edition

Good Tuesday to you Steelers’ Fans!

There are some really great Twitter accounts out there and a couple of them often post classic Steelers’ video clips. Most are from the dynasty period of the 1970’s or the more recent 2000’s where the team won two of three trips to the Super Bowl. My favorite clips however are from the ‘forgotten age.’ Some may actually call it an age that they like to forget and there’s plenty of reasons why. This age I speak of is that 1980’s and 1990’s period where trying to find a quarterback was like trying to find one specific fish in the Atlantic Ocean. From Bubby Brister to Jim Miller there were any number of guys that just weren’t Terry Bradshaw and Ben Roethlisberger hadn’t come along. Yet, as frustrating as those seasons were, there is a romanticism about them. Part of this is because those teams never stopped working. They never stopped trying to find their place in Steelers’ lore despite their shortcomings. There were many moments that were cringeworthy. Big losses to the Browns or Bengals among them but to me, there’s an appreciation for many of those teams. Not all of them to be sure but seeing those videos does actually bring back a few decent memories. So for the young Steelers’ fan base that has grown up with greatness, there was actually a period of mediocrity. I appreciate it now much more than I did then but I guess that’s understandable.

As I look at the Steelers’ schedule again after not thinking much about this summer it’s pretty clear they need to rely on a couple of things. A fast start and another classic December run will be needed if this team is to return to the postseason. With games at Oakland, New Orleans, Jacksonville and Denver sandwiched around visits by the Chargers, Panthers and Patriots, they have to come out of the gate strong. I’m not one to get too far ahead because not all of these teams will be what they are projected to be but on paper right now, it looks daunting.

Tweet of the Day… Pretty sure I’ve said this about Facebook, Twitter and Snapchat too.

As of this writing, the Steelers and Terrell Edmunds have still not agreed to a contract. I’m optimistic it gets down – maybe even Wednesday morning – but he needs to be on the field ASAP for a myriad of reasons.

I still don’t know why the Steelers are bringing back Daniel McCullers. I just don’t see the young man with the necessary drive to be a solid NFL contributor. I will however be He first to admit I was wrong if he becomes a player under the tutelage of Karl Dunbar.

The NFL’s second best wide receiver Julio Jones announced this morning that he would be holding out of Training Camp. With three years still left on his current deal I just don’t see where he has much leverage other than not being one of the top paid WRs. I get it, he wants to be paid among the elite but perhaps his agent should have done a better job right?

The Steelers report to Latrobe tomorrow. I repeat… THE STEELERS REPORT TO LATROBE TOMORROW!

Have a great day Steeler Nation!
