SCB Steelers’ Quick Hitters: The “Filling the Void” Edition

Good Tuesday to You Steelers’ Fans!

With Jake McGee and Jerald Hawkins both headed to Injured Reserve, the Pittsburgh Steelers signed offensive tackle Bryce Harris and tight end Ryan Malleck. Harris has played in 37 games over his five year NFL career (4 in NO, 1 in ATL) and has started just four times. He more than likely immediately jumps into the “swing” tackle role that Hawkins was destined to have. Malleck is just 24 years old and played in just two games in his only season in the NFL. He started 25 games at Virginia Tech and does flash some ability at times but doesn’t posses any real strengths.

Of the two, Harris has a significantly better chance of making the roster. That changes if rookie Chuks Okorafor makes bigger strides than are expected. Malleck will need to show consistency and power in his blocking to make the team. McGee was thought to have a real shot based on his blocking prowess so Malleck will have to impress in that area.

If you can explain just what in the wide world of sports has been going on with Antonio Brown’s social media the last few day then please step up. He’s released a number of cryptic tweets and then a very long Instagram post that quite frankly I’m still trying to comprehend. I hope this is nothing more than a blip on the drama radar.

Tweet of the Day… I have no idea what JuJu is wearing.

I do my absolute best to remain apolitical on social media and in this spot here but it’s really hard in light of the President’s decision to “dis-invite” the Super Bowl Champion Eagles. I’ll leave it at that.

The Steelers did not do anything “football oriented” on Monday. Instead they had some team building at Dave and Buster’s while some rookies visited UPMC and looked like they had a darn good time of it too.

Tweet of the Day #2… Rookie sing-a-long.

Legendary 49ers wide receiver Dwight Clark passed away yesterday. He of course authored “the catch” that led to the San Francisco dynasty. As a Steelers’ fan, I don’t look at his big moment that fondly. The reason? Because it coincided with the downfall of the great Steelers’ dynasty at the same time. Clark died way too young at the age of 61 due to ALS.
