SCB Steelers’ Quick Hitters: The “Did He or Didn’t He?” Edition

by Steeldad

Happy Hump Day Steelers’ Fans!

I think I’ve just accepted the fact that this team is loaded with drama and it isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. If it weren’t for the Martavis Bryant trade talk the majority of the discussion would be centered on whether Steelers’ safety Mike Mitchell “intentionally” went low on Chiefs’ QB Alex Smith. The coaches film is unmistakable. Mitchell is clipped by Anthony Chickillo. It’s foot on foot and there’s no denying it. Unfortunately for Mitchell, his penchant for big hits and sometimes questionable ones has stuck with him. In other words, he appears guilty because of past transgressions. I think Smith is right to be upset but even he can’t deny Mitchell was tripped. Of course this whole thing could have been avoided had Mitchell and company sacked Smith when they had him dead to rights.

David DeCastro had his best game of the season Sunday. His inline blocking was good and his pulling was excellent as well.

Lost in the discussion over Bell’s big day was the fact that James Conner had a couple of very nice runs. And how can you not love Terrell Watson coming to hammer the defense on short yardage?

Steel City Blitz Podcast Episode 42 presented by 26shirts.com/Pittsburgh is here for your listening enjoyment!

Tweet of the Day… Haden, AB and Bell were at the opener in Cleveland last night. Hope injuries aren’t contagious.

Pay close attention to the injury reports this week with the Steelers. Both Vince Williams and Tyler Matakevich are dinged up. Mike Tomlin said in yesterday’s presser he was not planning to add anyone unless both were unable to go. Stay tuned.

If you said the Steelers were going to draft a QB in the first round next spring I’d be fine with that. My question is which one? I’ve seen several of the top ones play and while they are all impressive there are some serious red flags too. From decision-making to the delivery each one has some concerns.

Chris brought up a very interesting point on the Podcast last night. B.J. Finney is a better run blocking guard than is Ramon Foster. Foster is a better pass protector however. Why not alternate them based on the competition? Baseball does it and to a degree other sports as well. The main reason football teams don’t do it of course is that it would tip the hand of the offense to a degree. As situational as football has become though I don’t think it’s a bad idea though.

Have a great day Steeler Nation!
