SCB Steelers’ Quick Hitters: The “Crowning of Hawkins” Edition

Good Thursday to you Steelers’ Fans!

With discussion ramping up about whether Steelers’ Left Tackle Alejandro Villanueva will hold out of Training Camp, some of that discussion has moved towards Jerald Hawkins. The fourth round pick from last year was injured during camp and never saw time in a game in 2016. I know for a fact the Steelers like him. They like him a lot. But that does not mean they like him so much they are willing to let Villanueva sit out the season which is his only option other than signing his current offer. Hawkins played hurt his final season at LSU and he performed very well in the early part of camp but he’s unproven and unknown right now. What’s my point? It’s that the Steelers aren’t dealing with Villanueva a “certain” way because of Hawkins. They do what they do. End of story.

Darrelle Revis has reportedly dropped about 15 pounds and is in excellent shape after playing hurt last year. I think the Steelers will kick the tires but they won’t offer him enough money in my opinion. Of course if he takes the vet minimum, he’d still collect $3 million from the Jets.

One week from today the Steelers will report to St. Vincent’s College. Some will arrive quietly and without much fanfare while will arrive in style. This is what makes football teams so unique. The coming together of so many different personalities.

Tweet of the Day… Not yet Charlie, not yet.

If Le’Veon Bell wants to be paid like a #1 running back and a #2 wide receiver then he better hope the way players are paid changes. I don’t see that happening however. Furthermore, he needs to stop with the “woe is me” crap on social media.

One of the areas on the team that is very much determined is the offensive line. Assuming Alejandro Villanueva comes to his senses then you have the starting five plus Chris Hubbard, Jerald Hawkins and B.J. Finney. With Mike Munchak typically liking to have nine offensive linemen, that means there’s room for one spot. Look for that guy to be an interior guy.

Have a great day Steeler Nation!
