SCB Steelers’ Quick Hitters: The “Comparisons” Edition

Good Thursday to you Steelers’ Fans.

The tweet posted below is from yesterday morning. I posted it because I simply thought it was a a thought-provoking question. Unfortunately it turned into a comparison of Mike Tomlin and Bill Cowher. Before I go any further here’s the tweet in question.

Is there any part of this that suggests I’m favoring one over the other? I am of the opinion that these are two different eras and these were very different teams. One of my favorite misconceptions about Cowher however was that he “never had discipline problems.” Even Chuck Noll had discipline problems. That excuse irritates me. My advice is stop comparing the coaches. I get why people are upset with Tomlin but comparing his time to that of Cowher isn’t fair to either guy.

Actual Tweet of the Day… Joe Haden coming up big with Air Jordans for the Defense!

Injury report via Steelers.com.

STEELERS

QB Ben Roethlisberger (Ribs) – DNP
S Sean Davis (Knee) – DNP
RB James Conner (Ankle) – DNP
LB Anthony Chickillo (Ankle) – Limited
C Maurkice Pouncey (Coach’s Decision) – DNP
OT Marcus Gilbert (Knee) – DNP

PATRIOTS

TE Dwayne Allen (Knee) – Full
CB Stephon Gilmore (Ankle) – Full

Big Ben not practicing on Wednesday has been normal throughout much of the season… Conner not practicing is further evidence of what we were told. He’s unlikely to play Sunday… Marcus Gilbert? I’m surprised he hasn’t gone on IR.

Keep an eye on the name Kai Forbath. He’s one of the kickers brought in this week. He and the other potential fill-ins will reportedly do some kicking later in the elements to simulate kicking Sunday afternoon.

On Tuesday, Mike Tomlin spoke of some “changes” that would be occurring on the defensive side of the ball this week. I have a feeling you might see some different personnel groupings in the secondary and perhaps some changes with the linebackers as well. Tom Brady’s kryptonite has always been persistent interior pressure so the defensive front will have to provide that regardless of who plays behind them.

Many people do not like the Rooney Rule which was supposed to force all 32 teams to interview at least one minority head coaching candidate whenever they are interviewing. The Raiders last year completely ignored the rule when they hired Jon Gruden. What was their penalty? Nothing. You may not like the Rooney Rule but you should at least educate yourself as to why it is necessary.

Calling it right now. Vance McDonald will have 80+ yards receiving on Sunday.

Have a great day Steeler Nation!

The Steelers have been practicing Burns and Sutton with the first team. Here’s what scares me when Sutton was ask what was going on and what the plans were. He answered ” i don’t know “. We’ll see what happens. I hope they don’t match-up Fort on any of these guys receivers.
