SCB Steelers Quick Hitters: The “Call to the Hall” Edition

Good Friday to you Steelers’ Fans!

I’m incredibly excited to not start with news today about our disgruntled wide receiver. Instead I get to discuss former Steelers’ All-Pro Offensive Guard Alan Faneca who was named a finalist for the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Faneca has been here before but has fallen short. This time I believe his call to the hall will come. Nine times Faneca was a Pro Bowl selection and six times Faneca was an All-Pro. Of the finalists named, I can see Tony Gonzalez and Ed Reed as clear selections. In terms of offensive linemen, Faneca is joined by Steve Hutchinson (7 Pro Bowls and 5 All-Pro selections), Kevin Mawae (6 Pro Bowls and 2 All-Pro selections) and Tony Boselli (5 Pro Bowls and 3 All-Pro selections). Of those three competitors only Hutchinson rivals Faneca but to be blunt, should any of these three to get in ahead of Faneca it would be a travesty. Get those Terrible Towels ready because I believe Faneca’s time has come.

We had a tremendous episode of the Steel City Blitz Podcast presented by 26shirts.com/Pittsburgh last night. Former Steelers’ PR man Ryan Scarpino  joined Ben and I to discuss Antonio Brown and what went wrong in the 2018 season.

Tweet of the Day… This indicates two things. First, it shows the level of frustration the Steelers have with Brown. Second, I’m tired of these guys continuing to air this crap.

You are seeing tons of misinformation out there about the salary cap implications of a Brown trade or release. One idea I was very surprised about was from ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler who suggested cutting Brown as the best way out of the situation. We do understand how nuts that is right? You want the Steelers to outright release an all-pro wide receiver and get nothing in return for him? Ya, right.

I have total faith in Ben and Ian by the way when it comes to salary cap stuff. These guys put in a tremendous amount of time looking at the numbers.

With the playoffs starting this weekend I enter them with only one thought in mind. I’m fine as long as the Pats or Ravens don’t win the Super Bowl.

Have a great weekend Steeler Nation!
