SCB Steelers’ Quick Hitters: The Return of Rosie Nix Edition

by Steeldad

Good Day Steelers’ Fans! Actually, TGIF…

After missing the first four games with a problematic back, fullback and special teams’ stalwart Roosevelt Nix will return to action on Sunday. Nix’s return is not exactly on par with the return of Le’Veon Bell but but for a second dismiss his significance. He’s proven himself to be an excellent lead blocker, pass catcher and ‘blitz picker-upper.’

[Update]: Despite being a full participant in practice this week, Nix has been declared “Out” for Sunday’s game.

Also on schedule to play Sunday against the Jets are Anthony Chickillo, Ramon Foster and Darrius Heyward-Bey. Foster’s availability is important because if the Steelers are forced to move Maurkice Pouncey out to right tackle then Foster’s replacement from last week, B.J. Finney, can play center.

I really think the Steelers have to “do unto others as has been done to them.” What does that mean? It means I believe the Steelers should spread out the Jets’ 3-4 defense as many offenses have done to the Steelers. That doesn’t mean they should abandon the run or anything remotely like that because they hit some big plays out of run-looks last week. With the offensive line not 100%, Todd Haley has to find ways to keep pressure off of Ben Roethlisberger.

‘Nail the Number’  for week five closes Saturday at 8pm ET. Get your two picks into @Craig Scott using #nailthenumber. 1. Margin of victory and 2. Number of completions by Ben Roethlisberger.

Tweet of the Day… Shoutout to my favorite QB and one of my favorite Steelers’ fans!

Check out Cnic’s breakdown of Artie Burns’ play versus the Chiefs.

Keith Butler was asked yesterday about whether his approach changes when planning for a struggling quarterback. Rightfully so, Butler said “no.” Ryan Fitzpatrick is more than capable of having a good game against any team but of late he’s been horrible. He’s thrown 11 interceptions in four games. Butler can’t count on him to keep being bad but he can certainly do his part to make sure he keeps struggling tho right?

With former Steelers’ Offensive Coordinator Chan Gailey running the offense for the Jets, I would expect to see them spread thing out quite a bit. With literally zero production from their tight ends, that likely means lots of four WR sets. Just something to look for on Sunday.

Have a terrific weekend Steeler Nation!
