SCB Steelers Quick Hitters for October 9th, 2014

The Steelers practice today from 1pm-3pm

-Injury Report from Wednesday. Brett Keisel, Heath Miller, Mike Mitchell and Troy Polamalu all missed practice with non-injury related reasons. Shamarko Thomas (hamstring), Ryan Shazier (knee) and Ike Taylor (arm) also missed practice.

-Browns Head Coach Mike Pettine announced yesterday that defensive end Phil Taylor would miss the next 2-4 weeks following surgery. He is an excellent run-stopper so his loss will likely effect the Browns’ ability to limit Le’Veon Bell. Also, cornerback Joe Haden was limited in practice as well. Even if he plays he won’t be 100%.

-Have to give props to William Gay. Although he’s had some ugly moments at times in coverage, between last season and this season he’s improved a lot since his first stint with the Steelers.

-It will be very interesting to see how well the Steelers’ defense does when Cleveland goes with the no-huddle. They might not use it exclusively but it was extremely effective in their comeback in the second half of week one. If you recall, Dick LeBeau, Mike Tomlin and several players all said that a lack of communication was the culprit.

-If it seems like it’s awfully early for the Browns and Steelers to have completed their two games with each other and it is. The last time they completed their two games this early was 1976.

-According to Alan Robinson f the Tribune-Review, Mike Tomlin has apparently but an end to the recent practice of players exchanging jerseys with opponents.

-In case you missed it, here’s the SCB Steelers Fan Podcast sponsored by our friends at Body Tech Gym in North Hills Pittsburgh.

-Browns’ fans are asking the same thing we are about our Steelers.

-Mark Kaboly of the Tribune-Review said that linebacker Jarvis Jones had his cast removed yesterday.
