SCB Steelers Quick Hitters for October 15th, 2014

by Steeldad

The Steelers will practice today from 115-315pm today. Whether or not they are all on the same page is a whole other subject.

– This game is huge for both teams. With each at 3-3 and looking up in the standings, a loss could effectively bury one of them. The good news for Houston is that outside of Indianapolis, their division sucks. The bad news for the Steelers is that their division is solid and perhaps the best in the NFL top to bottom. No neither team is eliminated, but they’ll need serious winning streaks and help along the way.

-The last time the Steelers and Texans played was in Houston in 2011. The game was won by the Texans 17-10 although it wasn’t really that close. Houston ran for 180 yards including 155 from Arian Foster. The 180 was the second-most given up by the Steelers since 2001.

-If the above stat concerns you, it should. The Texans run the zone read very well and Foster is one of the best backs in the league at executing it.

-The all-time series is tied at 2-2.

-Series high over those four games… Passing PIT Tommy Maddox 325 yards, HOU Matt Schaub 202… Rushing PIT Willie Parker 138, HOU Arian Foster 155… Receiving PIT Antwaan Randle-El 88, HOU Andre Johnson 112

-Ben Roethlisberger will play in his 150th career game Monday night. He is also looking for career win number 99.

-Tomlin’s press conference featured the word ‘obviously’ over 30 times… He also said comments by Bill Cowher and Hines Ward that the defense was soft and the offense was more finesse than physical were like “elevator music.”

-Also from the presser, Tomlin expects rookies Daniel McCullers and Martavis Bryant to see their first action of the season. McCullers will need to play with NT Steve McLendon out with a sprained shoulder. Apparently Tomlin feels the red zone offense is bad enough to the point where Bryant is needed… Look for CB Brice McCain to get more snaps… LB Ryan Shazier will practice this week but whether he plays or not will depend on how will he practices.

-Antonio Brown in his weekly showed said Mike Tomlin called them “soft mentally and physically” following the game Sunday. Will their be a response? Find out Monday night.

I really don’t like bashing my team. But there short-comings are obvious and almost seem preplanned. As far as the elevator comment goes ‘ we must be in a blank of them” One last thing i know the chips are down right now but we will get better soon with that said thanks for writing real articles instead of a bunch of bull crap, keep up the good work.
