SCB Steelers’ Quick Hitters: The “Honoring Villy” Edition

Good Monday Morning to you Steelers’ Fans.

If you haven’t seen it already, I highly suggest you check out this ESPN feature on Steelers’ left tackle Alejandro Villenuva.  It still burns me that Villanueva was not selected for the ‘Salute to Service’ Award by the NFL.

I’m sure you’ve seen that Antonio Brown is looking for around $16 million per season. Jason from overthecap.com figures if the Steelers offer a 3-4 year extension then it would likely be somewhere closer to about $15.3 million.

Don’t rule out Justin Gilbert returning to the Steelers. With the secondary already thin, it’s entirely possible the Steelers could bring him back on a very favorable contract. He knows the defense and offers the kick return possibility as well. I hope it doesn’t come to this but it’s something to consider.

For all those in a hurry to sign both Brown and Le’Veon Bell to huge deals, remember the Steelers will also have to deal with contracts for guys like Ryan Shazier and Stephon Tuitt down the road too.

Tweet of the Day… Cool pic of Da Beard

We must all recognize that one day Ben Roethlisberger will retire. With this quarterback class as poor as it is I don’t see the Steelers trying to find his replacement in this class. That does not mean however they will completely ignore the position in the draft. With Landry Jones a free agent and Zach Mettenberger not exactly thrilling anyone, I wouldn’t rule out a mid to late round pick.

The Steelers wanting to bring Lawrence Timmons back is not a surprise. He had one of his better seasons in 2016. Timmons wants to stay in Pittsburgh but he also has to come to terms on a significantly lower salary. A two to three year deal seems most likely.

Check out Brian’s look back at the 2013 Draft for the Steelers.

Best part about seeing DeAngelo Williams on “Talking Dead” last night was that even guys we see as our ‘football heroes’ can be giddy about stuff too. DWill looked and sounded thoroughly excited to be part of that.

Have a great Monday Steeler Nation!
