SCB Steelers Quick Hitters for Tuesday, August 4th 2015

by Steeldad

The Steelers are off today as is the traditional custom on Tuesdays.

This is the decal the Steelers will wear on Sunday evening to honor “The Bus.”

If you’re planing ahead, the Steelers are 3-2 in their five Hall of Fame Game appearances while their opponent, Minnesota, is 2-1. The Steelers last appeared in the game in 2007 and defeated New Orleans 20-7. QB Brian St. Pierre led the way going 8 of 14 for 129 yards and a touchdown.

Ben Roethlisberger says Markus Wheaton is going to be this year’s break-out offensive player for the Steelers. I have no reason to doubt Roethlisberger who spends way more time around Wheaton than I do but I need to see more consistency out of the third-year receiver.

James Harrison continues to cruise around camp in his sweats. When he’ll exchange those for his pads and practice jersey is unknown but I’m alright with this approach. There’s no reason to put unnecessary wear and tear on the 37-year old’s body. I’m guessing he’ll see some action in another 10 days to two weeks.

The pick the Steelers traded to Philly is a conditional one. This means that if Brandon Boykin plays more than 60% of the team’s snaps then the pick becomes a fourth-rounder. If not, it’s a fifth round selection. Boykin is going to play A LOT so plan on losing a fourth round pick.

Speaking of Boykin, I was told the Steelers actually tried trading for him around draft time but Chip Kelly wanted a solid fourth-round pick and the Steelers wouldn’t agree.

As a “pathetic blogger” I don’t have the access and sources that many of the guys on the beat do but I would like to acknowledge the sources in the shadow who give me info. They don’t have to but choose to and I appreciate it.

Tweet of the Day…. Le’Veon Bell reveals where his nickname “Juice” comes from.

I was told as early as a week ago that Senquez Golson was looking at surgery and now that appears to be the case. Two questions face him should he have the surgery. 1. How severe is it? 2. How will the Steelers handle him if he can potentially return in late 2015?

Maurkice Pouncey was back in pads yesterday after coming off the PUP list.

One name that has been extremely quiet has been Howard Jones. The outside backer who had a really good preseason last year has been nearly invisible.
