SCB Steelers Quick Hitters for August 13th, 2015

by Steeldad

The Steelers hit the road today for Jacksonville. They’ll play the Jaguars tomorrow night in preseason game number two.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported this morning that super agent Drew Rosenhaus is on his way to Jacksonville where he will meet with the Steelers about a new deal for his client, Antonio Brown. Rosenhaus is fresh off a new deal for Colts’ receiver T.Y. Hilton. The Steelers rarely do things when there is two years left on a deal but certainly AB’s performance deserves some attention.

New kicker Garrett Hartley started well yesterday in his first appearance since being signed to replace the injured Shaun Suisham. Hartley was 11 of 13 and two of his misses were from 57 yards. As I tweeted yesterday, if the Steelers are attempting 57-yard kicks then we have bigger problems than trying to make those kicks.

Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette had a story on the struggles of rookie tight end Jesse James. Two days prior to the Hall of Fame Game James learned of the sudden death of his best friend from high school. James of course dropped a sure touchdown and then bobbled another ball into the arms of a Vikings’ defender. At the risk of sounding like an insensitive jerk, the loss of a friend is obviously difficult but at what point does James bounce back?

Mike Tomlin said yesterday that all healthy veterans would play on Friday night. I think you’ll see Ben Roethlisberger for a drive or two but not much more than that.

Tomlin also mentioned that rookie Doran Grant, who didn’t see any snaps on defense Sunday night, will get some plays there this week. Grant did however get as much special teams time as any other player and that his absence from defense should not be taken as “he isn’t playing well.”

I’m as excited as anyone about Alejandro Villanueva at tackle but I’m pumping the brakes a bit. I want to see him against some starting defensive ends and outside linebackers before I’m ready to say he’s “the next big thing.” Regardless, his transformation has been impressive.

Tweet of the Day… This will be going on my wall in the Fortress of Steelertude.

Have a great day Steeler Nation!
