SCB Steelers Quick Hitters for 3/9/16

Happy Hump Day Steeler Nation!

The Steelers continued to keep some of their own players in the black and gold yesterday when they re-signed William Gay and then later in the evening came to terms with guard Ramon Foster (made official this morning a 3-year deal). With Foster back it likely means the Steelers are happy with Alejandro Villanueva at left tackle. Translation: They were glad to pay Foster versus Beachum who would have asked for more money.

I like Foster – always have – but I think he regressed a bit last year. Perhaps with Maurkice Pouncey back his game will pick back up but I really think the Steelers want more athleticism there. Being able to pull from both sides of center is huge in the NFL.

Regardless of my feelings, Foster is a great guy and even better locker room presence.

I would have to think Steve McLendon is next on the list in terms of returning players. Matt Spaeth could also be there as well with so much vacancy at the tight end position.

Tweet of the Day… Mike Tomlin clearly had enough of DeAngelo Williams’ twitter comments this week.

Chris and I both jokingly noted that all the three-year deals must mean that’s the window the front office thinks they have left for a legitimate Super Bowl run.

The DeAngelo Williams stuff is a prime example of how subjective our society can be. What Williams tweeted about Manning was not inaccurate. Yes, I’ll accept it could have been better timed but there’s the problem. Since when is there a rule about when you can or can’t comment on someone who is retiring?

I would also be willing to bet a large sum of money that Tomlin was told to nip DWill’s tweeting in the bud by someone with the last name of Rooney.

Mel Kiper, Jr had the Steelers taking cornerback William Jackson III with the 25th pick in his latest mock draft. I would be just fine with that.

Have a great Wednesday Steeler Nation!
