SCB Steelers’ Quick Hitters for 2/24/16

by Steeldad

Nothing gets us more excited in February than grown men running around the football field in their underwear! OK, that didn’t sound right. The NFL Combine is underway in Indianapolis and the Steelers are of course well-represented with GM Kevin Colbert and Head Coach Mike Tomlin there among others.

Colbert told Ken Laird and Tim Benz of Trib-Live Radio yesterday that this draft has become very “defensive heavy” and is light on offensive talent. That bodes well for a Steelers’ team looking to upgrade in all three levels of the defense. Now, if the scouting department can just come through we’re good right?

There’s a good chance you’ve seen ESPN’s touching and heart-felt interview with Cincinnati linebacker Vontaze Burfict. First of all, shame on the “worldwide leader” for giving this jagoff the opportunity to address his “style of play.” While I think all people deserve an opportunity to change I’m not holding my breath with Burfict. His actions are nothing new; they date back to college and likely before that as well.

Tweet of the Day… Needs no explanation.

Don’t buy into anyone that says “The Steelers are very interested in (fill in the blank)” because they interviewed them at the combine. They have dozens and dozens of interviews scheduled with prospects and some will be placed on the board and some won’t. Once the Steelers unveil their list of official visits to Pittsburgh then we can start pinpointing a little more.

With limited draft picks as of right now, I don’t expect the Steelers to draft a QB. They will however sign a couple of undrafted free agent rookies to be in camp. The primary backup will likely be a veteran who comes through free agency and no, his name is not Charlie Batch.

Expecting a foot of snow here in the lower Mitten. It was 62 degrees less than a week ago. Ugh.

Have a great Wednesday Steeler Nation!

That was that little taste of Spring that Punxsutawney Phil promised you a few weeks back.
