SCB Steelers Quick Hitters for 12/22/15

by Steeldad

As is the usual case the Steelers are off today.

Mike Tomlin will hold his press conference today at Noon Eastern.

As of right now the Steelers are in the playoffs because they hold a better record against AFC opponents than do the New York Jets. Should both teams win out, the Steelers will have the advantage.

One thing to keep an eye on is the AFC West. The Broncos still need a win to clinch the division but they host Cincinnati then San Diego to close the regular season. The Chiefs host Cleveland and Oakland in their final two games. It’s still highly possible for the Chiefs to win the division. If that were to happen, Pittsburgh would get the fifth seed because of their head-to-head win over the Broncos. This assumes they both finish at 11-5.

Even with both starting safeties injured, I still thought the Steelers would struggle to get to 30 points. I had the Steelers winning 27-17 but even I have to admit that offensive explosion in the second half was something I didn’t see coming.

Tweet of the Day… I can’t get enough DeAngelo Williams. This guy is awesome.

I think one of the best performances of the second half Sunday was that of Ryan Shazier. I’ve been as hard on him as anyone this season with all the injury issues but he was all over the field and defended the pass as well as he has all season.

While I fully expect the Steelers to be all business heading into Baltimore, don’t think  for a minute the Ravens will just roll over. To take it a step further, a major concern I have is potential cheap shots on guys like Ben Roethlisberger or DeAngelo Williams.

Steelers’ center Cody Wallace is this team’s version of Bill Laimbeer the old Detroit Pistons’ agitator. He’s the guy you want on your team and a guy you’d hate if he were on any other team.

I believe David DeCastro has done enough to warrant serious consideration for the Pro Bowl. I don’t know that he makes it but he has really come on in recent weeks.
