SCB Steelers’ Quick Hitters: The “Draft Guarantees” Edition

Good Tuesday Morning Steelers’ Fans!

I’m going to take this opportunity to make some guarantees about the Pittsburgh Steelers and this Draft which is a little more than 48 hours away. I feel ready to make such claims after listening to the press conference yesterday held by Head Coach Mike Tomlin and General Manager Kevin Colbert. While both are masters of saying a lot but giving very little information, I think there were definitely some items you had to be paying attention to in order to get. Therefore, here are my ‘draft guarantees.’

First up, I believe the Steelers will draft a wide receiver. OK, maybe not a bold move I admit, but I do think it will happen between rounds one and three.

Secondly, I believe the Steelers will draft a quarterback. Personally, I’m not a fan of this idea unless they are all-in and think someone at 30 has the potential to be a long-term starter in the NFL (I don’t see that either). Regardless, I guarantee the Steelers will take a QB.

Lastly, with that third round compensatory pick which I view as a valuable one, I think the Steelers view as a ticket to trade. I think they make a move in this draft and that pick will be part of it whether I like it or not.

Tweet of the Day… It’s incredibly easy for guys who no longer play pro sports to walk away from the things they did ‘off the field’ to help their communities. Former Steeler Charlie Batch is an exception. He continues to give back.

Looks like Adrian Peterson is off to New Orleans. If he stays healthy then no one benefits more than Drew Brees.

This is from MMQB’s Peter King: Whither Joe Mixon? I’m hearing the Oklahoma running back, who had the 2014 incident of punching a female student in the face, has garnered the most interest from Cincinnati, Minnesota, Green Bay and Jacksonville. I won’t be surprised to see the Bengals take Mixon with the 41st overall pick. Owner Mike Brown has taken chances in the past on players with off-field issues, leaving it to the coaching staff to keep those players in line.

Leaving it to the coaching staff to keep those players in line???? Could someone explain to me how well that has worked out to this point???

As I stated yesterday, the Steelers are poised to move forward with Martavis Bryant or without him. Sure would be nice of the Commissioner to let us know one way or another before the draft. You can be damn sure that if this were the Patriots or Cowboys Bryant’s fate would have been made clear already.
