SCB Steelers’ Quick Hitters: The “Dead Period” Edition

TGIF Steelers’ Fans!

Now that the mandatory mini-camp has ended, we are entering one of the most dangerous periods of the NFL season. I wish that were being over-dramatic but it’s not. The period between the mini-camp and the start of Training Camp is one that front offices fear the most. This is the time when players have the least amount of restrictions in their daily lives and where unfortunately, poor choices will be made. If I don’t hear the name of Steeler until the end of July that will be just fine with me.

Case in point is the Vikings’ Michael Floyd who may have already violated his probation by consuming alcohol which he was not supposed to do.

Steelers’ rookie T.J. Watt got into a bit of a kerfluffle yesterday with second year offensive lineman Jerald Hawkins. This is not a big deal and if anything, I like it. Watt is being challenged and his teammates want to see how he will respond.

Tweet of the Day… Great photo here of Richard Mann and JuJu.

The Stanley Cup made a visit to Steelers’ practice this week. It’s always entertaining for me to see guys from another professional sport take in the revered cup.

As we look ahead to Training Camp, there are several very interesting battles that are already starting to take shape. The most obvious will be at wide receiver where the depth is ridiculously good which means one or two guys aren’t going to make this roster. I also think there will be intriguing plot-lines in terms of offensive line depth, outside linebacker depth and in the secondary as well. Injuries will certainly help along with the decision making but either way I’m looking forward to it.

Hope everyone in the Steeler Nation has a great weekend and I hope the weather cooperates wherever you are!
