SCB Steelers’ Quick Hitters: The “Here Come the Cliches” Edition

Good Tuesday to you Steelers’ Fans!!

Today is of course the usual day for Head Coach Mike Tomlin’s weekly press conference and after Sunday’s debacle this one should be filled with one cliche after another. While I think it would be great if Tomlin gave some answers that had some depth to them, I understand what he’s doing and you should too. He’s protecting players and attempting to keep things in-house. The problem of course is that this hasn’t worn off on the players themselves who put way too much of their thoughts in the media. Regardless, expect today to be filled with lots of good, but usual stuff from Tomlin. I just hope the words “unleash hell” are not uttered.

Former Steeler Ryan Clark needs to shut up. Going at the Steelers via social media is a punk move and he knows it. While I’m glad Le’Veon Bell took up for himself and teammates I also wish he would have left it alone. Clark was at one time a good safety and decent compliment to Troy Polamalu but he put his own selfish desires to be in front of the camera ahead of his teammates for two years. His play and the play of the defense suffered for it. Clark has become nothing more than another ESPN talking head.

Now if you want a former Steeler who puts out well-thought critiques of his former team and Ben Roethlisberger than check out Ike Taylor. There is nothing in Taylor’s comments that isn’t fair or accurate. There is also nothing rude or demeaning or negative. He’s just being honest about what he sees.

Tweet of the Day…. Another amazing photo from Dave DiCello.

Now that we’ve had 48 hours to contemplate what took place on Sunday I think it’s a good time to breathe. The Steelers have had more disastrous losses under Mike Tomlin to much worse teams but I get it. This one was ugly and the play of our quarterback is open to criticism that perhaps never existed before. Let’s see how this team answers the bell in Kansas City before we jump off bridges.

Art Rooney II will hold a press conference today at 130pm. The topic is a former Super Bowl MVP. I do not expect any comments from him regarding the current state of the Steelers. Should he offer any, this would be a significant departure from past Rooney behavior.

The players are off today and return to practice tomorrow.

I can already tell you the offensive gameplan in Kansas City will feature a lot of Le’Veon Bell. Call me Nostradamus.

Have a great day Steeler Nation!
