SCB Steelers Quick Hitters for 9/13/16

by Steeldad

What a joyous Tuesday morning hey Steelers’ fans?

The Steelers went into Washington, started slowly and then took the Redskins behind the woodshed for the 38-16 win. Huge games for Antonio Brow, Ben Roethlisberger and DeAngelo Williams but also great games from Eli Rogers and Ryan Shazier.

In case you forgot, the Steelers’ home opener is Sunday against the Bengals.

No winners in our #nailthenumber contest last night. Pot grows to $1,100. We’ll unveil the two things you have to “nail” coming up tomorrow.

I want to apologize to everyone who tuned in to listen to our rabblecast last night. We had one overwhelming technical issue we could not get resolved. Hoping it’s all fixed and ready for Sunday.

Have heard several times this morning already that Justin Gilbert could see significant playing time on Sunday. Stay tuned.

Shazier’s knee is reportedly “not serious.” Let’s hope it stays that way.

Tweet of the Day… Here are the new Steelers’ Color Rush jerseys. I will admit, not nearly as awful as I thought.

As great as the win was last night there are still some concerns. Tackling was down-right atrocious at times… I get that the Steelers didn’t blitz much but the overall lack of pressure was still alarming… Sammie Coates did a few good things but he has to do a better job of catching the ball too.

I had the Steelers losing 23-20 last night because I just didn’t think our D, especially in the secondary, would be up to snuff. I also worried about the offense with no real threat from tight end or a number two receiver. Glad I was wrong.

Hard throw but c’mon Ross Cockrell!! You gotta pick that one!!

Anthony Chickillo nearly had himself a pick of a wide receiver screen. He saw it unfold and couldn’t have missed Kirk Cousins’ throw by much at all.

My last thought for today goes back to the job Maurkice Pouncey did wrestling the fumbled ball away from the Redskins. The Steelers were already down 6-0 and Washington would have had the ball inside our 20 yard line. Great hustle play by Pouncey.

Have a great day Steeler Nation!

Great job, I have a really good feeling about this team. I am going to be positive this season, in the past i complained about many things but overall this team has done a good job of putting together a team that is totally different than the one that won the Super Bowl. Of note if you guys recall back in the off season in mentioned a young man from Florida who i coached several years back.Well UDFA Brian Poole was starting at safety for the Falcons this weekend.
