SCB Steelers Quick Hitters for 6/23/16

SCB Steelers Quick Hitters

Welcome to another Thursday Steelers’ Fans.

Had good conversation with SCB contributor Ben yesterday about Shamarko Thomas. There are a lot of assumptions out there that Thomas, who has clearly underachieved, will be cut at some point prior to the season beginning. If you look at the Steelers’s safety depth and that they’d only save $200,000 by releasing him we think he might make the roster. Stay tuned on this.

I started my SCB Summer Series this week. I’m focusing on players who I think have to have big seasons in order for the Steelers to make a legitimate run to the Super Bowl. My first two players were Ladarius Green and Mike Mitchell.

OK I know I’ve probably irritated many of you with all the tweets and stories about Ben Roethlisberger’s Camp but here the links to the stories for the final time.

Tweet of the Day… So true

From everything we are hearing Landry Jones will enter camp as the team’s number two quarterback. Jones had a few strong moments and some that were… Not so strong in relief of Big Ben last season. If Bruce Gradkowski is 100% do you agree with Jones still be the #2?

Have to think the Steelers are working on a deal for David DeCastro. I’ll be very surprised if something isn’t done for him by the beginning of camp.

I was 45-50 miles out of Pittsburgh Monday and I saw this gazebo up on a hill along the highway. Wrapped around the top of the gazebo was a “You’re in Steelers Country” banner. I just love Steeler Nation!

Last week it was Roger Goodell who was falsely reported to be dead on Twitter. This week it’s Joe Flacco. Obviously these things aren’t funny but…. Then again they kinda are.

Have a great day Steeler Nation!

To answer your question about L. Jones all you have to do is remember the Bengals game where they put Ben in with a injured shoulder. Hey lots of confidence there, Ben’s ability right now is top notch anyone is going to be a huge drop-off. If Haley were so good then why didn’t our offensive machine just keep rolling? Ben makes this entire offense roll think anything else and you are fooling yourself.

The drop-off from Ben to any back up is massive. Curious to see just how ‘firm’ LJ is as the second stringer.

You hit the nail on the head right there. The drop off from Ben to any NFL backup is going to be like falling off a cliff. Even if they had managed to sign Hoyer, it would have been a ridiculous drop off and he’s probably the best backup caliber QB in the NFL.

Another thing of interest, Just to show you how far Steeler country reaches. I live in the south part of Florida and in my town there are at least 5 Steeler bars, 6 steeler cars [i have 1]. And anywhere i go with Steeler gear i have to be ready to start giving out knuckle rub and high fives. We are truly everywhere.

Good point about the bars… I know my cousin in the Fort Lauderdale area goes to two or three different ones!

yeah. I lived in Jacksonville for a couple of years (I don’t recommend it) and Burghers are all over the place there. Spent some time in Orlando. Same was true there.
