SCB Steelers’ Quick Hitters for 4/21/16

Thursday is upon us and that means just one more week until the NFL Draft. Speaking of…

Chris is getting ready to release his final mock draft for 2016 and I’m also going to put one out because of course “everyone else does!”

Here are picks 21-24 for the First Round Mock Chris and I are working on.

No sooner had the news come down about Josh Norman becoming an unrestricted free agent than Steelers’ fans took to social media to implore the team to ‘go get him.’ The Steelers did in fact contact Norman’s agent but no team in the NFL does ‘due diligence’ the way the Steelers do. Keep in mind that Norman will likely not sign for anything less than $13 million per season. If you’d like the Steelers to sign him for that then you can likely kiss Le’Veon Bell and David DeCastro buh-bye. It just isn’t practical folks.

With the two top picks now spoken for and both being quarterbacks (unless something out of this world bizarre happens), I have to believe that this could help the Steelers. Typically teams the need quarterbacks will draft them earlier than they probably should or will move up in an effort to get them. For every QB that goes ahead of number 25 that means the chances are better for the player the Steelers want to fall to them.

Of course the opposite effect is the result of the Josh Norman situation in Carolina. The Panthers will likely be looking for corner help now too which takes one off the board.

Tweet of the Day…. Ridin’ the bus!

Report out today from Jason LaCanfora that suggests West Virginia Karl Joseph may not be ready for training camp. Remember he had an ACL injury last season at West Virginia. While I would like guys who can ‘play now’ if he’s ready to go by week four or five I’m OK with that. It’s likely he wouldn’t start right away anyway.

I honestly don’t think the trades are done in the top half of the draft. I wouldn’t be surprised to see more teams move up because there are only a handful of guys in this draft with ‘superstar’ potential.

Have a great day Steeler Nation!
