SCB Steelers Quick Hitters for 2/29/16 Combine Edition Vol.3

by Steeldad

Today is the final day of the NFL’s “Underwear Olympics” as the defensive backs are on the field as I type. That’s part of the reason QH is coming later than normal because I wanted to get a look at guys the Steelers are sure to be interested in.

Additions to the Steelers’ interview list are Oregon QB Vernon Adams and Clemson CB Mackensie Alexander (who isn’t participating in drills) according to walterfootball.com. Adams is the second QB to get a sit-down with the Steelers. USC QB Cody Kessler also had a meeting with the black and gold back at the Senior Bowl. Alexander is one of the top corners in the draft and should, and I stress “should,” be long gone before the Steelers select at number 25. Perhaps this is due diligence or maybe they are considering a rare trade-up to get him. Stay tuned.

[Update:] USC LB/S Su’a Cravens reports that he also has met with the Steelers.

I fear after this morning that the guy Chris and I really like, Houston CB William Jackson III, will be gone sooner than we hoped. He looked really good in field drills and ripped off a blistering 4.39 40. While speed isn’t everything it will only help his cause.

Make sure you get your Heath Miller t-shirt designed by Chris over at teespring.com. They are awesome and are only available for 13 more days.

Tweet of the Day… Former Steeler Nolan Harrison gets it.

There weren’t any edge guys yesterday that I saw that were “must have” pass rushers. While he 40 is incredibly overrated for these guys some like Joey Bosa and Noah Spence both raised red flags with their slower than expected times. The good news is that this is a deep draft along the defensive front so the Steelers may not feel pressed to grab someone in round one.

A lot of the draft talk will gain more focus once free agency starts which is next week. No, the Steelers won’t be going after top guys as usual but we’ll get a good idea of who they are after in the first few days.

Have a great Monday Steeler Nation!
