Happy Monday Steelers’ Fans. The Steelers will practice in Latrobe starting at 255pmET today. It may be hard to believe but there is just one more open practice before the Steelers’ break camp.

The team will play their next preseason game at home on Thursday night against the cross-state rival Eagles.

In case you missed it from yesterday, the Steelers released offensive tackle Brian Mihalik, defensive tackle Roy Philon, and the team placed safety Ross Ventrone on the Reserve/Injured List. The three open spaces were filled by offensive tackle Wade Hansen defensive tackle Khaynin Mosley-Smith and cornerback Julian Whigham. All three are undrafted free agents. I do not expect anything from the three new signees. At this point, earning a practice squad spot would be pretty incredible.

I wrote about Sammie Coates’ need for a major bit of redemption after Friday night’s game.

After seeing a ton of time against the Lions as a boundary corner, Doran Grant practiced yesterday at safety. This move has been coming in the minds of us at SCB. Whether he sticks there is uncertain but I won’t be surprised if he does.

I think you’re also seeing a new approach this season from Head Coach Mike Tomlin regarding his star or veteran players. Friday night, young guys took the majority of the snaps and I think that’ll continue to be the plan. At this point, I’d be surprised if we saw Ben Roethlisberger, Antonio Brown, Le’Veon Bell and DeAngelo Williams in more than one game. After seeing another rash of injuries in week one it just isn’t worth it.

Tweet of the Day… Heavy rain means practice in the gym.

Rookie offensive tackle Jerald Hawkins has a shoulder injury and from the delivery of that news by Mike Tomlin I fear it isn’t good. Hawkins has really had a nice camp and his game has changed for the better under the tutelage of Mike Munchak.

As big of a rebound as Sammie Coates needs Thursday night, Alejandro Villanueva could use one as well. I don’t think anyone should be pressing the panic button but he didn’t look good against Detroit. He struck me as slow and allowed guys into his body rather than use his long arms to keep them at bay.

Rams’ Coach Jeff Fisher is apparently getting a contract extension. Why? I have to ask.

Michael Phelps has never really been high on my “favorite athlete list.” I acknowledge his greatness as a swimmer but it always amazes me how quickly we forgive in this country. I couldn’t care less about the photos of him smoking dope but what I don’t forgive is two DUI’s. And he’s a Ravens’ fan. Need I say more?

Have a great day Steeler Nation!
