SCB Steelers AFC Wild-Card Wrap-Up; Steelers Beaten 30-17

by Steeldad

Can’t help but wonder if this was last we’ll see of Troy Polamalu…

First Half Thoughts

-Did not see Ben Tate being used like this…

-Ben a little off to start. Throwing behind receivers. Heath Miller should have had that one though.

-Good punt by Brad Wing. Look for Ravens to go deep early here.

-Defense holds on Ravens’ first possession. Good push from McLendon and Harrison.

-Martavis Bryant with two straight good plays.

-Second straight drive ends with a sack. Steelers have to protect better. Ravens not even blitzing… 3-0 Steelers

-Correct call on Mitchell hit. Clearly led with his head as he has all season.

-Ravens using tight ends well. No surprise.

-Steelers gashed by the run. Five carries for 39 yards there as Ravens take lead 3-7.

-Amazing play by Roethlisberger to get away from a sack and deliver the ball to Heath Miller.

-12 men on the field against Baltimore after stopping the Steelers on third and one. Now a personal foul on the Ravens. First and goal Steelers.

-Another red zone failure. O-Line struggling to give Ben protection. 6-7.

-Terrible penalty by Jason Worilds. Gotta keep your cool.

-Great pressure from Stephon Tuitt and James Harrison on Flacco on third down; Gay saves the day with deflection. 6-10

-Ravens are doing an excellent job on kickoff coverage. Markus Wheaton doesn’t have a chance right now.

-No clue why the Steelers called timeout there. Already wasted one earlier in the half now only have one remaining with a minute plus left in the half.

-Steelers settle for another field goal. 9-10 at half. Very poor performance by the Steelers in the first half. Defense was gashed by the run, two dumb penalties and can’t cover tight end again. Offense is struggling to protect Roethlisberger. He hardly has time to find check-downs.

Second Half Thoughts

-Third and 14 and the defense gives up the first down. Antwon Blake was so far off he didn’t have a chance.

-3rd and 20 and they get 15. Now in field goal range. Just awful defense. 9-13

-WR screen to Archer for one yard. Enough already!

-Officials not calling illegal contact on DBs at all tonight. .

-Ravens are more aggressive, more urgent tonight in all phases. Steelers are passive and waiting for things to happen.

-Mike Mitchell allows receiver to get behind him in the end zone, Flacco avoids Harrison, TD Ravens. 9-20.

-I really don’t see the Steelers coming back from this. Antonio Brown has been silenced to this point, OL struggling.

-Steelers forced to punt as fourth quarter begins. Anything more than a field goal given up and this one is over.

-Big fumble for Forsett. Great job by Ryan Shazier of pulling Forsett’s arm back keeping him from getting the ball back.

-Ben goes deep and finds AB for the score. For the record, I like going for two here. Nix that, replay rules him down at the 1/2 yard line.

-Instead of AB, Bryant gets the score and they don’t get the two. Terrible throw and worse play-call. 15-20.

-Just a dumb penalty by Shamarko Thomas on the kickoff.

-Steelers allow Torrie Smith behind them again yet he can’t get the second foot down. Field goal. 15-23 with eight minutes to go.

-Tipped pass intercepted by Suggs. Pretty much the ballgame right there.

-Flacco hits TE on first play for TD. 15-30.

-Steelers get a meaningless safety with a blocked punt by Shamarko Thomas.

Well Steelers’ fans. We are officially on the clock.
