Potential Two-Game Suspension for Steelers’ Bell is Right On the Money

by Steeldad

On Tuesday, Pittsburgh Steelers General Manager Kevin Colbert acknowledged the team believes star running back Le’Veon Bell will be suspended by the National Football League for two games. This is a result of his arrest for marijuana possession back on August 20th of last year.

As always, I’ll be brutally honest; I have no problem with this suspension if it ends up being two games. I can easily listen to arguments for it to be one game but I’m just fine with two.

Bell deserves a one-game suspension just for being arrested after police saw smoke and smelled marijuana coming from his vehicle. Regardless of the fact that I believe marijuana should be legalized or not, Bell violated the law and league rules and deserves to be punished.

The second game he may be suspended for is because of sheer stupidity. I like Le’Veon Bell. I like him a lot, but his decisions that day were nothing short of stupid.

Want to blame LeGarrette Blount? Go ahead, blame the aptly named Blount all you’d like to but that doesn’t dismiss Bell’s poor thinking.

Hours before departing for a preseason game and your driving a vehicle and smoking weed in a very public place? Sorry, but that’s just dumb and warrants a game suspension in and of itself.

While it certainly appears that Bell righted the ship and behaved in a much more appropriate manner for the remainder of the season, that doesn’t excuse his bonehead moves.

If this suspension is in fact a two-gamer, then I’m cool with that. Now it’s on Kevin Colbert and Mike Tomlin to make sure they are more prepared for Bell’s absence then were for the playoff loss to Baltimore.
