Only in Cleveland do they think handing out a white flag is a good idea

by Steel City Retro

Leave to the Cleveland Clowns front office to come up with a genius idea of handing out white flags to their fans to “rally around”. I know the team is 2-8 this season, but damn, who was the Einstein that came up with that idea?

Once again it’s another failed attempt by an NFL franchise to try and mimic the iconic Terrible Towel.

According to Yahoo SportsThe Cleveland Browns have waved off their white-flag giveaway.

Following days of criticism, the Browns have decided to cancel a promotion to hand out white flags to fans before Sunday’s game against the rival Pittsburgh Steelers. Because white flags symbolize surrender, the giveaway seemed to imply the Browns were giving up against the Steelers, who have won 16 of the past 17 games between the AFC North foes.

Browns spokesman Neal Gulkis said in a statement on Saturday that the team scrapped the idea ”in the best interests of everyone. It is something that was intended to be fun for our fans and that they could rally around, and we regret that some didn’t perceive it that way.”

Now seriously, if you want to hand out some out something for the fans to wave, give them a pom pom, or rally sticks, or if nothing else but at least make the towel orange!

I do applaud the front office though for one thing, at least they didn’t want to hand out a brown towel…think about the jokes that could have been made out of that one!

Sorry Cleveland, better luck next time, there is nothing more iconic, nothing that rallies a fan base more than a good ole fashioned Myron Cope Official Terrible Towel!

Double Yoi!
