Lemon May Have Asked for Release From the Steelers

by Steeldad

Pittsburgh Steelers’ Training Camp is not even a week in and already we have some movement on the roster and it comes as a bit of a surprise. Free agent outside linebacker Shawn Lemon, who had been on the PUP list, was cut.

The former Canadian Football League star was thought to put some pressure on some of the other guys at the OLB position because of his ability to get to the passer and create turnovers.

Lemon was on the PUP list due to an Achilles’ injury. A source close to the Steelers tells me that Lemon may have asked for his release. The reason being that with the depth at the position, Lemon may have felt like the odd man out and the Achilles’ problem didn’t help.

One of the reasons why Lemon may have wanted to try his luck elsewhere was the drafting of both Bud Dupree and Anthony Chickillo. The late round pick from Miami has been a very nice surprise already in camp and if you think other players like Lemon don’t pick up on that then you’d be mistaken.

To fill his roster spot, the Steelers have signed defensive back Jorden Sullen. Something to keep an eye here is the injury to Senquez Golson which may require surgery.
