Home Steelers 2017 Season Killer B’s Rule the Day at Steelers’ Camp

Killer B’s Rule the Day at Steelers’ Camp

by Steeldad

While technically it was Day Six of Training Camp 2017 for the Pittsburgh Steelers it was just the fifth practice and from the outset the major stories involved the famed “Killer B’s.” If it wasn’t one it was another and then back again and such is life with this team.

We learned early on that Ben Roethlisberger and Martavis Bryant have had their little pow wow and according to Big Ben, things were overblown to begin with (no surprise). He even went on to challenge the NFL as to why they are taking so long to fully reinstate Bryant. Bottom line is that it sounds like these two are fine.

From there, Roethlisberger stated that he’s been texting the self-exiled Le’Veon Bell almost daily but has yet to get a response. While disheartening, Roethlisberger is still ready to welcome him back when the time comes. For the record, I’m told Bell is still doing himself no favors with his teammates or front office. He apparently blew off a scheduled meeting with Kevin Colbert and Mike Tomlin yesterday leaving them high and dry.

Then Antonio Brown announced that he was a new father again welcoming a new son. What was unfortunate about this was that a certain Pittsburgh shock jock decided it was the appropriate time to take shots at Brown for having five children with two women. I’m confused… How is this his business? Wasn’t the time but hey, gotta get ratings.

Other Items of Note…

-James Conner was back at practice but was limited and did not participate in pads. His injury is deemed to be a sprain of the AC joint. This is one of those injuries however that could be a few days or several weeks. It can be that sensitive.

-I don’t understand why people track statistics at Training Camp. There are so many factors that the person(s) doing so are unaware of that’s it reckless. Todd Haley is not sitting in the coaches office penciling in Canaan Severin for week one because he caught 20 of 22 balls today.

-If it wasn’t clear before it should be now. Tyler Matakevich is the favored inside linebacking reserve for one simple, yet vital reason. Mike Tomlin and Keith Butler trust him ore than anyone else to “wear the green dot.” That means he’s the guy to get the call and get the defense into the right positions.

-JuJu Smith-Schuster was back in pads today and that’s a great and well-needed sign.

Craig Wolfley and Tunch Ilkin had high praise for seventh round pick Keion Adams. They said physically he’s matching T.J. Watt every step of the way and has looked just as good as the first rounder so far through Camp.

Hines Ward was in Latrobe today working with receivers. He continues a long line of former Steelers who come back to help at Training Camp.

-With Scott Orndoff being cut and former Florida tight end Jake McGee being brought in I sense a move is coming before the regular season begins. This position is incredibly thin right now. I believe the Steelers will be gauging the waiver wire just a bit more heavily on the tight end position as Camp rolls on.

Don’t forget, Steel City Blitz Podcast presented by 26shirts.com/Pittsburgh airs tonight at 10pm Eastern. We’ll cover the latest from Camp and play a little “Steelers’ Trivia” with Tay and Ian who join me for this episode.
