Week 3 Fantasy Football: Trust or Bust -TNF Edition

by Chris Nicolaou

Trust or Bust is my brand new Fantasy Football segment. It is designed to give advice on who to play and who to keep on your bench for this week’s slate of games. This is a general piece of advice and it is not a definite figure. Everybody’s league and team is different and must be treated as such. Sometimes a ‘bust’ must be played because you have no other choice, or maybe you have a hunch. My best advice is to trust your gut. If there are any names not mentioned here, please contact me at @Cnic__ on twitter, I will be happy to give you personal, one-on-one advice as i do for many others. Also, if you have questions or disagreements about my placement of players unto either label, use the same method to contact me. I am human, most of the time, so I may have forgotten players, let me know if I have as well!

This is going to be a snoozefest of a football game, so I have added a couple of ‘sleepers’ to this article. Get it?  Yeah, I know I am not funny.

Los Angeles Rams @ San Francisco 49ers: September 21st @ 8:25pm

Trust:

Los Angeles Rams

Todd Gurley  – Gurley is averaging 18.5 points per game thus far, which ranks second among running backs. The 49ers are 15th against opposing running backs thus far but faced below average running backs. I predict Gurley keeps up his momentum and goes big here, I trust him.

Rams D/ST – Rams rank third among D/ST’s thus far, mostly due to their 29 point opener against a Scott Tolzein led Colts team. The 49ers rank 25th against D/ST’s, so the Rams are a trustworthy play.

Greg Zeurlein – Zeurlein has been money thus far and is ranked second among kickers, averaging 13 points per game.

San Francisco 49ers

Carlos Hyde – Hyde has yet to find the end zone but ranks 12th among running backs. Going up against a defense that is running back friendly (28th against running backs), Hyde can be trusted.

Bust:

Los Angeles Rams

Sammy Watkins – Watkins has struggled thus far, as expected. Only having 7 targets through 2 games is pretty bad. Ranking 56th as wide receiver goes, Watkins is a bust until he proves consistency.

Jared Goff – The 49ers have been quite decent against quarterbacks thus far, holding Cam Newton to just 12 points and Russell Wilson to just 14.

San Francisco 49ers

Avoid everyone except Hyde and Garcon.

Sleepers:

Cooper Kupp – Ranked 18th among wide receivers and averaging 6 targets per game. SF is 19th against opposing wide receivers.

Pierre Garcon – Ranked 43rd among wide receivers and averaging 7.5 targets per game. LAR is 6th against opposing wide receivers (but faced the Colts week 1). Garcon is the only passing option for Brian Hoyer, so he will continue to be relevant as a sleeper.

SteelCityBlitz.com and Chris Nicolaou are not responsible for the let down of advice taken. Fantasy Football is a game of many variables and not all decisions could possibly be predicted accurately. If you take advice and it helps you, we will indeed enjoy taking all the credit.
