Home Player Spotlight Boyd Never Had a Chance As Long As Jones Was Around

Boyd Never Had a Chance As Long As Jones Was Around

by Steeldad

It really shouldn’t surprise anyone that Tajh Boyd was released by the Steelers today. There was no secret about the fact that he would have had to have played like a young Michael Vick in order to even threaten the third QB Landry Jones.

Boyd didn’t do himself a lot favors with some botched snaps and poor throws early in camp but did any of that really matter anyway?

Landry Jones could walk down the steps to the fields of St. Vincent’s College wearing a Cleveland Browns’ jersey while burning a Steelers’ one and he still wouldn’t be cut.

That’s because the front office is unwilling to admit they screwed up. It really is that simple.

Personally, despite his struggles, I think Boyd should have at worst gotten a series or two in the first two preseason games shouldn’t he? Don’t we already know what we have in Landry Jones by this point?

I don’t have the stats in front of me but I’m willing to bet that Jones is the Steelers’ all-time leader in snaps taken at QB in the preseason. That’ll look good on his football-database profile page.

But then again, this isn’t about Landry Jones; it’s about Kevin Colbert who can’t bring himself to say, “it was a poor draft choice.” This team had and still has needs. Can you imagine if Colbert had drafted a corner in that spot who went on to contribute? Can you visualize what added depth at corner could have done to future drafts?

Nah… We don’t need those now do we? What we needed was another QB to hold down the 3rd spot.

Tajh Boyd may not have gotten a chance but then again he was never going to get on in Pittsburgh either way as long as Jones was here.

You 100% correct and that’s why i say best man up. I could go on and on with this , but let’s keep it short this is the biggest short-coming of this team. The talent evaluation makes me shake my head. In short who positions players in the order they are drafted. Like i said best man up screw that bull crap of where they were drafted.
