SCB Steelers’ Quick Hitters: The “Slow Going” Edition

Good Monday to you Steelers’ Fans!

Welp, if you were expecting a big splash by the black and gold you’re likely disappointed. This is how the Steelers do things folks especially when they already have a solid team. They expect to build through the draft and then add depth and an occasional starter through free agency. The concern I have is that I know they wanted to have a free agent cornerback signed by now. If it turns out that Ross Cockrell starts in 2017 that isn’t the worst thing ever but I believe the cost for free agent CBs was much higher than they anticipated. I expect the ‘slow going’ in free agency to start picking up a bit this week.

I pondered whether the Steelers’ free agency plan has backfired in a piece yesterday.

Big thank you to many of you who are new to to the site. Since the beginning of February we’ve seen substantial growth in terms of views and subscribers. For all of you who’ve been loyal readers… Thank you too!

The Bengals will be hosting Joe Mixon, the Oklahoma running back, for a visit. Mixon of course missed an entire season due to his assault of a young woman that left her with a broken jaw. Let’s put it this way, I’ll be very surprised if the running back-needy Steelers bring him in.

Tweet of the Day… Walking Dead fan DWill chiming in…

According to spotrac.com the Steelers have about $19 million in salary cap space. That may sound like a lot but consider they will have rookies to sign and always like to have some room during the season in case of injuries.

Big thanks to Chris Garman who who has created several new banners for our ‘Quick Hitters’ pieces.

Markus Wheaton is now officially a Chicago Bear after signing with them. I think it’s a good break for both the Steelers and Wheaton who spent a lot of time dealing with injuries.

Cornerback Davon House is visiting the Steelers today. He’s played the last two seasons in Jacksonville after starting his career in Green Bay. He played for the Packers for four seasons.

Have a great Monday Steeler Nation!
