I’ve already read about Adams getting trucked by rookie Daniel McCullers, which is forgivable considering Dan’s size… but there have also been stories of Adams getting beat by the 215 pound Shamarko Thomas and rookie free agents.
First of all, I want to say this isn’t a sky is falling story, and I’m not panicking one week into camp. We all knew that Adams needed work, so Mike Munchak is likely breaking Adams down to build him back up.
That being said, the Steelers offensive line could be one Pouncey-like injury away from relying on Mike Adams all season long.
The Tennessee Titans just signed Michael Oher to a 20 million dollar contract and spent the 11th overall pick on Taylor Lewan. Rumors are starting to heat up that the veteran left tackle Michael Roos is on the trade block.
Roos has played his entire career under Steelers offensive line coach Mike Munchak either as his OL coach, or head coach until this season. Roos is 31 years old but incredibly has only missed 1 start in his entire 9 year career.
I think that the 3 time all-pro could really provide the Steelers with some good play for at least a season or two.
Kelvin Beachum and Marcus Gilbert would be serviceable bookends, but I’d be happy to throw Roos in there and get a real competition going for both tackle spots.
Last season the Ravens sent a 4th and 5th round pick to the Jaguars for Eugene Monroe, who was only 26 at the time. I think that Roos could be had for a 6th round pick.
In 2010 the Steelers signed the 35 year old Flozell Adams who helped solidify a line that went to the Superbowl.
If the Titans want a big haul for Roos then you move on, but I think that Kevin Colbert would be wise to at least pick up the phone. It’s a deal that could make a lot of sense for both sides.
